Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) says he is planning to run for reelection, ending speculation based on his slow fundraising that he might be considering retirement.
"I judge whether I run based upon whether I've got something to contribute," Burr tells WNCN. "I still have a lot to contribute to representing North Carolina in the United States Senate."
Burr is viewed as potentially vulnerable in North Carolina, which still leans Republican but has trended Democratic in recent years due to demographic change. - The Hill, 1/7/15
Burr currently has $700,000 saved up for his re-election bid but I'm sure the Koch Brothers and Art Pope will happily pour a lot more money into his bank account. North Carolina is going to be a crazy election year because not only is Burr a top target, so is Governor Pat McCrory (R. NC) and they're both running in a Presidential election year where North Carolina will be a big target state for both parties. Democrats are working on getting now former Senator Kay Hagan (D. NC) to run against Burr. We'll find out her plans soon. Democrats may also have other top name candidates like State Treasurer Janet Cowell (D. NC) to run against Burr. Stay tuned.
