I am fed to the teeth with homophobia, gay bashing, bigotry, and the hate directed towards gays and lesbians. I am sick to death of the bullying. It's coming from the right, it's coming from the uber-religious, and it's coming from the ignorant.
I have decided to do something about it in my own life. From this day forward, when meeting a new person or meeting an old acquaintance again, I am going to ask them directly how they feel about gay people.
If they give me any twinkling whatsoever that they are homophobic (a snigger, a joke, a sly remark, a funny look, an outright off color remark, open homophobic remarks, a jesus rant...anything at all) I am going to tell them directly that I have a personal policy of having nothing to do with homophobic people.
I am going to tell them outright. And when they try to imply that's because I too am gay, I will throw my 32 year old marriage and my five biological kids right back in their ugly faces.
Enough with the hate.
