When DK4 launched I pondered whether I should start a group focused on the media. Somehow I became distracted and a month later I thought I'd see if somebody else started the group. To my surprise there was still no group for media discussions.
So.....
This weekend I created the "Media Watch" group and am looking for followers and members to participate in what I hope will be more than a place to complain about what a bunch of hacks and toadies the press is composed of (though there will be plenty of that too). This is the description I posted in the group's profile:
At Media Watch we will discuss, disparage, praise, expose, and analyze every facet of the media. From Fox News to the Barstow Bulletin. From anchors and authors to executives, consultants, and even politicians and others who seek to exploit media. From independent journalists to street artists and more.
All of this will be aimed at providing information, producing reform, and promoting accountability. The corporate-dominated press is not going to willingly reshape itself into a responsible, effective check on the pillars of power in this country, so it is up to us help them along to become a more open, honest, independent, and diverse institution. Let's get to work.
The media is the one component in the activist chain that impacts every issue. So whether you are driven by environmental matters, or civil rights, or foreign affairs, or party politics, or extraterrestrial communications, you will never achieve your goals without first reforming the media so that your message can be delivered to the people.
So please follow this group, tell your friends, and post links to it in diaries where it's appropriate. And if you're interested in contributing diaries to the group, please let me know.
