BREAKINGLY:
An ordinance promoted by Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton & Councilman Tom Simplot to ban, citywide, discrimination against the LGBT & disabled communities was passed by the Phoenix City Council tonight, after several hours of debate.
Of course--as with funding birth control via the ACA--the measure had to be amended to completely, totally, indisputably reassure the opposition that their ability to discriminate on, say, religious grounds would not be affected. While a sad reminder of the political need to soothe the fearbeast, if that's what it takes to pass, fine; those prejudices will increasingly retire to towns with "Sun" in their names. At least the City of Phoenix has finally managed, thanks to the leadership of a dedicated group, to catch up with most other cities, & testify to the nation that there is hope for Arizona yet (even if the city must for now still endure Councilman DiCiccio in District 6).
