You know, nothing gives my Gay ego a big-fat ol' stiffy like reading how right-wing fake Christians have given the LGBT community the power over weather, the earth, volcanoes, and terrorism. And now, right-wing radio broadcaster Rick Wiles has endowed us with another power - the power to call fireballs from space.
Speaking on his radio program "TruNews" Thursday, Wiles gives yet another dire prediction of what will happen to the United States if bans against same-sex marriage are overturned by the Supreme Court.
“I believe I am speaking under the unction of the Holy Spirit,” he continued. “I’m telling you there will be swift, sudden and devastating consequences for the United States of America. America will be brought to its knees, there will be pain and suffering at a level we’ve never seen in this country. The word that I hear in my spirit is ‘fire.’ I do not know if it refers to riots or looting or war on American soil or a fireball from space. I simply know that a sweeping, consuming fire will come across the United States of America and this country will be charred and burned.”
Yes, my LGBT brothers and sisters. We now truly poses the power of the cosmos. To reign fire down upon our enemies, and to smite them with the unholy fire of our...uh...Gayness?
This would be unbelievably hilarious if he were to stop here. But, of course, folks like Mr. Wiles just don't know when to stop. Filling his role as the day's sanctified whiner, he does the requisite amount of self-victimization, accusing the "radical homosexual movement" of criminalization of Christianity.
“Life may change radically in 60 days,” he said. “I’m talking about the fast-moving, radical homosexual movement that has captured control of the American political system, the corporate world, the news media, the entertainment industry and the educational system. This is a takeover and it is anti-God, it is anti-Christ. The same-sex marriage case before the U.S. Supreme Court is not about same-sex marriage, it is about the criminalization and the elimination of biblical Christianity in the United States of America.”
Because after bullying its way into this country via the crusades, and surviving the end of slavery, the legalization of interracial and Black marriage, civil-rights, and Jim and Tammy Baker, Christianity in America is facing annihilation after over 200 years, simply because people want to share their lives together.
Warning that “the fate of the United States of America will be decided over the next two months,” Wiles told [Mat] Staver [of Liberty Counsel] that “a Supreme Court decision recognizing homosexual marriage as a right will be the final nail in America’s coffin. The last society that attempted to slide into this level of immorality and debauchery were the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and they did not have a happy ending.”
Let's forget for a moment that the story of Sodom and Gomorrah had absolutely nothing to do with homosexuality, or that the Bible generally has very little to say about the subject of marriage (certainly not that it's between "one man and one woman"). Right-wing fake-Christians constantly warn that America will suffer the same biblical fate as that of Sodom and Gomorrah if same-sex marriage becomes legal across the country. This is despite the fact that over 30 countries around the world have some recognition of same sex marriage, and to date none of them have been wiped from the face of the Earth by God's wrath.
This kind of hair-on-fire proselytizing about marriage equality is just about all that the opposition has left. And listening to some of the other nut-jobs on the right, it's pretty clear even to them that they're going to lose.
From conservative commentator Robert Knight...
“unless God intervenes, the court looks poised to create a brand-new right to gay marriage out of the Constitution, which is just literally insane and absurd.”
Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council...
“This really will determine the future of Western Civilization,” Perkins said. “It really will, this is very serious.”
GOP resident deranged Black guy, Alan Keyes...
If the United States Supreme Court presumes to impose any redefinition of marriage on the states...the Court’s decision will be an attack on the very foundation of constitutional government, of by and for the people of the United States. It will be a high crime and misdemeanor that effectively dissolves the just bonds of government between and among the states, and among the individuals who compose the people of the United States. It will therefore be just cause for war.
Finally, the Institute On The Constitution's Jake MacAulay...
“Psalm Two warns that when the judges and the rulers of the earth throw off God’s law and take it upon themselves to make their own rules for right and wrong, they will be dashed to pieces like a rod of iron striking a clay pot,” MacAulay warns. “Regrettably we seem to be setting ourselves up for this very lesson. Unless our government officials start obeying God and stop ‘playing god,’ this is a lesson we will experience fully.”
These are the rantings of people who know they've lost the argument, and are now reduced to "slippery-slope" anecdotes and quoting from the scariest parts of the Bible in hopes of terrifying enough barely educated rubes to make some kind of difference.
Meanwhile, our side now has the power to call fireballs from space. Cool, ain't it.
