Let me preface this by saying I am not Hillary Clinton's biggest fan. At this early stage in the game, I'm leaning Team Bernie all the way. That said, I feel I owe a debt of gratitude to the Mainstream Media. Their subtle - and not so subtle - attacks on Ms. Clinton will make it that much easier for me to cast my vote for her in 2016, should she be the Democratic nominee. The GOP is, as usual, prepared to whip their base into a frenzy by recycling all the anti-Clinton oldies-but-goodies from the conservative playbook. But, in their lust for blood, they have found a new target; Ms. Clinton's time as Secretary of State - specifically Benghazi. Aided by Trey Gowdy's Benghazi Committee's lethargic pace, as well as the State's frustratingly slow release of e-mails, the MSM is able to attack Hillary Clinton with nothing more specific than innuendo and their reader's inaginations.
In the latest batch of e-mails released, headlines castigate Clinton for being concerned with her image in the wake of Benghazi. In examining the e- mails, which the Reuters article linked above helpfully quotes, three things become obvious.
1. Hillary Clinton did not author these e-mails. Her staff did. I'm assuming if Clinton's part of these exchanges were more damming, they would be included.
2. Both staffers were doing their jobs when they sent these e-mails. Critiquing their boss's performance and affirming that she relayed accurate information to the public are no doubt part of what made them trusted staffers.
3. Unless there's a whole lot more to the e-mails not yet released, e-mailgate is just a lot of smoke, without any fire.
